Santa Cruz de Tenerife is rolling out the red carpet this weekend for one of the biggest military parades in Spain, when Armed Forces Day celebrations reach their peak with a huge air and land display.
This is taking place today, Saturday, along Avenida Marítima, where more than 3,200 troops, dozens of military vehicles, and a powerful air display will take centre stage.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia arrived at 11:30am to lead the official ceremony, they were joined by high-ranking military officers and senior politicians, including Defence Minister Margarita Robles and Canary Islands President Fernando Clavijo.
The day started with a formal welcome for the King and Queen, including full military honours. They will then inspect the troops before a symbolic tribute is paid to the Spanish flag. One of the most moving parts of the ceremony will be a tribute to those who have died while serving Spain.
All eyes will then turn to the skies as an air display gets underway, featuring 34 aircraft and 21 helicopters, including the Eagle Patrol aerobatic team, which is marking its 40th anniversary.
This will be followed by a powerful land display with forces from the Army, Navy, Air and Space forces, as well as the Guardia Civil, parading through the streets with tanks, armoured vehicles and synchronised marching.
The celebrations will end with a final farewell to the Royal Family and the ceremonial lowering of the national flag, bringing to a close a day packed with patriotism, tradition, and military precision.
